Although FileLocator Pro has a built-in PDF reader (activated by checking the PDF box in the File Type Extensions tab) it is possible to use Adobe's PDF IFilter to perform the PDF reading instead. However, early versions of Adobe's PDF IFilter (specifically version 6.0) were not configured correctly and could cause FileLocator Pro to crash.
Since version 7.0.5 of Acrobat Reader the PDF IFilter functionality is bundled by default and not part of a separate download. Therefore Mythicsoft recommends that you only use the IFilter included with the very latest version of Acrobat (at least version 8.0) rather than downloading a separate IFilter. If you do not want to install Acrobat Reader then you should stick with the FileLocator Pro built-in PDF reader.
Once installed the IFilter can be activated by checking the box "Use Indexing Service Filter (if available)" under the PDF Extension settings.
Note: The FileLocator Pro built-in PDF reader is based on the XPDF open source viewer for PDF files.
